Women's Soccer Ties Heidelberg, 1-1, To Open 2025 Season

GENESEO, N.Y. – The SUNY Geneseo women's soccer team took on Heidelberg at College Stadium on Friday evening in their season opener, and finished the game in a 1-1 draw.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • The Knights put pressure on throughout the game, opening the first half with six shots. Abby Dunnigan highlighted the first half with a close shot, ringing off the post, but ultimately missing.
  • Geneseo had the advantage in corner kicks, recording four in the first half while Heidelberg was held to none.
  • Within 10 minutes of the start of the second half, Dunnigan scored the first goal of the season for the Knights, with Riley Griffin on the assist
  • The Knights held their 1-0 lead for nearly 10 minutes, but eventually Heidelberg found the back of the net and the game ended in a 1-1 tie.
QUICK FACTS:
  • There were eight total shots on goal for the Knights: Dunnigan (two), Abby Foster (three), Samantha DeNisco (one), and Kirsten Sheperd (two)
  • Emily McLouth played all 90 minutes in goal with three saves on the evening.
