Men's Soccer Captures 3-0 Win In Season Opener Against St. Lawrence University

CANTON, N.Y. - The SUNY Geneseo Men's Soccer team opened the 2025 season with a 3-0 win over St. Lawrence on the road.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • Geneseo struck first with a penalty kick late in the first half. Dylan Thody sent it bottom left to give the Knights the 1-0 lead.
  • The team held strong on defense to start the second half, then Thody tallied his second goal of the game after making a great play around the Saints defense to find the back of the net, with Connor Guercia on the assist.
  • The Knights struck again in the 72nd minute, with Michael Ruggiero scoring his first collegiate goal, chipping it over the keeper to bring the score to 3-0 after trapping a well-placed kick from goalkeeper Max Crothall, who was credited with the assist. The Saints tried to answer back but Crothall denied them with a sliding save across the net.  Geneseo ended the first game of the season with a 3-0 win over the Saints.

QUICK FACTS:

  • Thody led the team with two goals, his first career multi-goal game.
  • Crothall made nine saves in the net to register the shutout win, and recorded an assist.
  • The Knights are now 2-0-1 in their last three season opening games against St. Lawrence.

WHAT'S NEXT?
The Knights head to Buffalo State tomorrow for a 7 p.m. kickoff against the No. 16 Bengals.
