Softball Earns Seven All-Conference Honors

GENESEO, N.Y. - The Empire 8 announced its softball All-Conference awards on Monday morning, and SUNY Geneseo took home seven All-Conference honors. Tara Brochu and Molly Griffin earned First-Team honors, Kaitlyn Schmitz and Gabriella Petroski landed Second-Team recognition, and Brooke Fraas, Bella Nadzan, and Ray Schumacher rounded out the honors on Third-Team. Additionally, Hannah Olejniczak was named to the Empire 8 Sportswoman of the Year team for Geneseo.

Brochu and Griffin were dominant at the plate this year for Geneseo en route to their First-Team honors, leading the team in batting average at .500 and .490, respectively. Brochu played catcher for Geneseo in the field, and posted a slugging percentage of .734 with 32 hits, nine doubles, two home runs, and 23 RBIs. Griffin picked up First-Team Empire 8 recognition as a DP in her first year as a Knight, picking up 48 hits, 23 doubles, and 28 RBIs.

Schmitz and Petroski were the two starting pitchers for Geneseo all year long, with Schmitz landing on Second-Team in the utility position and Petroski as a pitcher. Schmitz broke the program record for career doubles in her final game this season, and finished the year with a batting average of .423 on 52 hits and 28 RBIs. As a pitcher, the Eden, NY native threw 88 innings with a 3.02 ERA and nine wins. Petroski recorded 14 wins in her sophomore campaign with an ERA of 2.37 in Empire 8 games on 59 innings pitched.

Fraas, Nadzan, and Schumacher picked up Third-Team honors after leading the infield for the Knights at second base, shortstop, and third base all season long. Fraas hit .374 in the leadoff spot for the Knights, scoring 42 runs and tallying 46 hits with eight doubles, four triples, and two home runs. Nadzan finished the year with a .368 batting average on 28 hits, eight doubles, and 22 RBIs. Schumacher rounds out the Third-Team honorees with a .350 batting average and team-highs in doubles (13), home runs (5), and RBIs (32).

One member of each team was named that institution's representative on the 2025 Softball Sportswoman of the Year Team. The Empire 8 Conference emphasizes that "Competing with Honor and Integrity" is an essential component of a student-athlete's experience in conjunction with an institution's educational mission. These honorees have distinguished themselves and consistently exhibit the critical traits as outstanding sportswomen and Olejniczak earned this distinction for the Knights.
