Women's Lacrosse Falls At #16 St. John Fisher

GENESEO, N.Y. - The SUNY Geneseo women's lacrosse team came up short in a tough road test at No. 16 St. John Fisher on Wednesday afternoon, falling 14-7. The Knights dip to 6-6 overall and 3-1 in Empire 8 play, while the Cardinals improve to 11-0 and 4-0 in the conference.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • In a low scoring first quarter, Maddie Brown scored the lone goal for the Knights off an assist from Rosemary Mahoney. Geneseo trailed 2-1 heading into the second quarter.
  • The Knights flipped the momentum in their favor against the unbeaten Cardinals in the second quarter, scoring three unanswered goals to take a 4-3 lead. Goals from Mahoney, Katie Rajkowski, and Alaina Reina gave Geneseo the lead, then another goal from Olivia Luchetti held the lead at 5-4. Unfortunately, St. John Fisher tied the game at 5-5 in the closing seconds before halftime.
  • Geneseo's defense kept the score knotted at 5-5 for nearly the first seven minutes of the third quarter, but the Cardinals were able to go on a run and extend its lead to 10-5 before the start of the fourth quarter.
  • Brown and Sophie Lyko found the back of the net in the fourth quarter, but the Knights couldn't mount a comeback and ultimately fell 14-7.
