Women's Lacrosse Snaps Nazareth's Five Game Win Streak With 21-11 Win

GENESEO, NY: The Geneseo Women's Lacrosse team held strong against the Nazareth Golden Flyers, winning 21 to11. Geneseo advances to 7-6 overall and 4-1 in conference play.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • Geneseo scored three goals early in the first to take the lead. Dany Elmer started the streak two minutes in and was followed by Sophie Lyko and Alaina Reina. Nazareth notched two of their own and Geneseo followed suit, with Natalie Long and Lyko bringing the score to 5-2 after the first 15 minutes.

  • Rosemary Mahoney nabbed her first goal 21 seconds into the second period. Geneseo continued to capitalize on great saves from Emily DeJohn and turnovers made by the Flyers, tallying five more goals from Long (2), Mahoney, Maddie Brown, and Olivia Luchetti. The Knights went into halftime leading Nazareth 11-4.

  • The Golden Flyers tried to cut the deficits in the third, scoring five goals but Geneseo was unfazed. Reina started the push with a successful free position shot followed by Long off a turnover. Elmer, Mahoney and Lila Warner found the back of the net after great draw controls made by Grace Geary and Katie Rajkowski and the Knights lead the Golden Flyers 16-9.

  • Nazareth grabbed two more goals early in the fourth but could not handle the prowess of Geneseo. Reina tallied one more and the Knights sealed the game with four consecutive goals from Elmer (2), Reina and Luchetti. Geneseo ended the game winning 21-11 over Nazareth.
