High-Powered Offense Leads Geneseo Softball To Sweep Over RIT

ROCHESTER, N.Y. - The SUNY Geneseo softball team combined for 21 runs over two games at RIT on Wednesday afternoon to earn a doubleheader sweep of the Tigers. The 10-5 and 11-6 victories improved the Knights record to 15-5 overall, while RIT falls  to 5-13.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Geneseo came out hot in game one, with Tara Brochu and Bella Nadzan each picking up RBI doubles in the first inning to help the Knights put up four runs. Brochu and Nadzan went on to each pick up an RBI in the second inning as well, while Amanda Audia and Claire Kubiak each added one as well for an 8-1 advantage.
  • Brochu's impressive game continued in the third inning, where she crushed a home run to right center field to make it a 10-1 lead. RIT was able to put up a late rally, but the Knights easily held on for the 10-5 victory.
  • Molly Griffin opened the scoring in game two, driving in Gabriella Smith with an RBI single. However, RIT went on to take a 4-2 lead after four innings of play.
  • The Knights offense came alive in the fifth through seventh innings, scoring nine-straight runs to take control of the game. Griffin and Ray Schumacher highlighted the run for the Knights, each tallying three RBIs over the final three innings. Geneseo's late surge allowed them to secure the sweep with an 11-6 victory.
QUICK FACTS:
  • Nadzan and Brochu combined for seven RBIs in the opening game, then Griffin and Schumacher followed it up in game two with seven combined RBIs as well.
  • Mikayla Bucci earned the win in game one with five innings pitched, while Gabriella Petroski closed out the final six outs for the Knights.
  • Kaitlyn Magerle picked up her first win in the second game on six innings pitched, while Audia recorded the final three outs.
WHAT'S NEXT?
Geneseo will return to Vic Raschi Field and Empire 8 action on Friday and Saturday this weekend against SUNY Poly and Utica.
