Women's Lacrosse Earns Third-Straight Win, 16-9 At Brockport

BROCKPORT, N.Y. - The SUNY Geneseo women's lacrosse team used a dominant second half performance to help secure their third-straight win, 16-9 at Brockport. The Knights improve to 5-5 overall and 2-0 in Empire 8 action, while the Golden Eagles fall to 2-7 overall and 1-1 in conference.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Brockport jumped ahead early, leading 4-1 through the first 10 minutes of action. However, the Knights went on a 4-0 run in the final 3:30 of the first quarter to take a 5-4 lead.
  • Rosemary Mahoney and Maddie Brown scored the first two goals of the run, then Sophie Lyko netted a man-down goal with 27 seconds left. Geneseo was able to sneak one more goal in before the buzzer, with Grace Reyna scoring off a pass from Natalie Long with two seconds left.
  • The Golden Eagles answered the Knights run early in the second quarter, regaining a 7-5 advantage in the opening minutes. Later in the quarter, Geneseo found themselves trailing 8-7 in the closing minutes, but once again came up with momentum shifting plays. Alaina Reina found the back of the net with 1:20 on the clock to tie the score, then Lila Warner scored with 13 seconds remaining for a 9-8 lead.
  • The Knights managed to completely lock up Brockport's offense in the second half, limiting the hosts to just one goal over 30 minutes. Geneseo's second half defensive effort helped them roll to a 16-9 victory and remain unbeaten in conference play.
QUICK FACTS:
  • Long led the Knights offense with eight points on five goals and three assists, while Reina and Warner each chipped in four points.
  • Geneseo put up 16 caused turnovers in the game, with Grace Geary leading the way at four, and Sarah Ginnane and Mady Bulkley each adding three. Geary also recorded seven draw controls.
  • Emily DeJohn and Teagan Culhane each saw time in goal, with Culhane earning the win on three saves and nearly 43 minutes played.

Geneseo will head to Sage on Saturday, April 5 for a 2 p.m. start.
