ONEONTA, N.Y. - The SUNY Geneseo softball team earned a pair of decisive wins at Hartwick on Sunday afternoon, winning by 12 and 18 runs for their fifth-straight win. Geneseo improves to 26-10 on the season and 15-5 in Empire 8 action.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- After two scoreless innings to open game one, Brooke Fraas put Geneseo on the board with an RBI single in the top of the third inning, then Kaitlyn Schmitz brought in Fraas to make it 3-0 for the Knights.
- Geneseo's offense stayed hot in the fourth inning as Schmitz drilled a two RBI double to jump start a five-run inning. Ray Schumacher and Molly Griffin each chipped in an RBI double inning, then Lauren Bieniek capped off the scoring with an RBI single. The Knights would go on to add six more runs in the fifth inning to help secure the 14-2 victory.
- Schumacher got game two started on a high note, hitting a three-run home run in the first inning. Geneseo then kept the momentum going in the second inning by registering nine runs in the frame.
- The Knights continued to keep the pressure on Hartwick and tacked on seven more runs for a 19-1 victory in game two.
QUICK FACTS:
- Schmitz and Schumacher were dominate at the plate, combining for 10 hits and 13 RBIs over the two games.
- Gabriella Petroski threw all five innings in game one for her 13th win of the season, while Mikayla Bucci pitched the second game, only giving up three hits and one earned run.
- Heading to the final week of the regular season, the Knights have 30 points in the Empire 8 standings and currently sit in third place as they hold a tiebreaker over Utica who also has 30 points.

Geneseo will head to Elmira for their final doubleheader of the season on May 1, and will then turn their attention towards the Empire 8 Tournament.
