Women's Lacrosse Celebrates Senior Day with 19-6 Win Over Utica

GENESEO, NY: The Geneseo Women's Lacrosse team celebrated Senior Day with a 19-6 win over the Utica Pioneers. The team advances into the postseason with the No.2 seed, playing the winner of the Utica vs. Brockport game on Thursday, May 1st at 4:30 PM.  

HOW IT HAPPENED: 

  • The Knights and Pioneers kept it close in the first, with Utica leading for most of it. Rosemary Mahoney struck first for the Knights, while Natalie Long tied the score at 4-4 with 10 seconds left in the quarter.  

  • The Knights came out with a fire under them, ending the half with a six-goal run from Long (3), Mahoney, Alaina Reina, and Olivia Luchetti. Maddie Brown recorded her 49th assist this season, setting a new program record for single season assists.  

  •  Geneseo opened the third quarter with an 11-5 lead over Utica. Utica scored early on, but the Knights locked in and didn't allow the Pioneers to score for the remainder of the game. Long (2), Reina and Mahoney all tallied goals, alongside Maddie Brown who scored off a great caused turnover by Sarah Ginnane.  

  • Mahoney, Reina and Long each scored one more, leading the team to the 19-6 win over the Utica Pioneers. Geneseo finishes the regular season with an 11-6 overall record and 8-1 conference record, securing the No.2 seed for playoffs.  

QUICK FACTS: 

  • Maddie Brown broke the programs single-season assist record of 48 set by Hannah Marafioti in 2022. She had six this afternoon and has  53 so far this season.

  • Sarah Ginnane broke the single-season caused turnover record set last year by Tricia Curran (44). Her seven CT puts her at 47 so far this season. 

  • Rosemary Mahoney led the team with nine points on four goals and five assists. marking her best performance this season.

The Knights will host the winner of the Utica vs. Brockport quarterfinal game on Thursday, May 1st at 4:30 PM.
