Atkinson Breaks Career Goals Record As Men's Lacrosse Finishes Season With 20-2 Win At Utica

UTICA, NY: Senior attacker Jimmy Atkinson broke the men's lacrosse program record for career goals on Saturday afternoon by scoring the 150th of his career. The record of 149 goals, had stood since the conclusion of the 1982 season by Don Litzelman. Geneseo defeated Utica 20-2 in the game and finishes the regular season with a 10-6 record and 7-2 in conference play, securing themselves the No.3 seed for playoffs. 

HOW IT HAPPENED: 

  • Riley Henselder struck first for the Knights at 12:57, with the assist from Aksel Stanat. Utica tied the game, but Geneseo went on to score three more, with goals coming from Ryan Trebing, Ryan Fitzgerald and Henselder.  
  • Geneseo continued to control the game, putting up five more goals in the second quarter. Jimmy Atkinson led with two goals, while Henselder, Trebing and Fitzgerald each tallied another this quarter, heading into halftime leading 9-2.  
  • The Knight's defense was strong for the remainder of the game, not letting Utica score again. Atkinson and Trebing both completed the hat trick, with Henselder and Jake Perinchief on the assists.  
  • Geneseo was unstoppable in the final quarter, scoring three goals in less than a minute. Elijah Martin snagged the last goal of the game for the Knights and the team took down Utica 20-2.  

QUICK FACTS: 

  • Atkinson now has 39 goals this season and 151 for his career after scoring four times against Utica.
  • Ryan Trebing led the team with six goals, completing his second hat trick of the season.  
  • Riley Henselder led the team with seven points, scoring two goals and five assists; the most assists and points in a single game for him.  
  • Andrew Tittmann recorded the win in net, making 12 saves while between the pipes.
