Softball Sweeps Sage

ALBANY, N.Y. - The SUNY Geneseo softball team picked up a doubleheader sweep at Sage on Friday afternoon, defeating the Gators by scores of 8-0 and 7-5. The pair of wins improves the Knights record to 24-10 on the season and 13-5 in the Empire 8.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Geneseo picked up a five inning win over Sage in game one of the doubleheader scoring eight runs in the first four innings. The Knights led 4-0 after two innings, highlighted by an RBI triple from Brooke Fraas.
  • In the top of the fourth inning, Kaitlyn Schmitz brought in three runs with a bases clearing double. Ray Schumacher then brought Schmitz in with a single, securing the 8-0 game one victory.
  • In game two, Amanda Audia broke a scoreless tie in the third inning with an RBI single that scored Bella Nadzan. Schmitz then brought in Audia with a single to make it a 2-0 advantage.
  • Lauren Babich then stepped up for the Geneseo offense, drilling a two-run home run in the fourth inning to go up 4-1, and then delivered an RBI single in the 7th inning to help the Knights secure a comeback win as they trailed 5-4 heading to the final inning.
QUICK FACTS:
  • Schmitz was dominant at the plate in both games, going a combined 6-7 with four RBIs and one run scored. Schmitz also threw four innings in the game two win.
  • Gabriella Petroski picked up both wins for Geneseo today as the pitcher, improving to 12-2 on the season. Petroski threw all five innings in game one and only allowed one hit, then pitched the final three innings in game two.
  • Molly Griffin, Fraas, and Schmitz now lead the Knights offense with 40 hits each this season, while Schumacher leads the way in RBIs at 26.

Geneseo will travel to Hartwick on Sunday, April 27 for a doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m.
