Softball Splits With Fredonia In Final Non-Conference Doubleheader

GENESEO, N.Y. - The SUNY Geneseo softball team split their final non-conference doubleheader of the season on Wednesday afternoon as the Knights hosted Fredonia. Geneseo won the second game by a score of 10-2 in five innings, as they move to 21-9 overall on the season.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • After dropping the opening game 8-0, Geneseo quickly bounced back with a six-run first inning to open game two. Ray Schumacher brought in Brooke Fraas for the first run with an RBI groundout, then Molly Griffin and Gabriella Petroski came up with RBI singles to make it 3-0. The big inning continued with RBIs from Gabriella Smith and Katie Kuneth, with Smith scoring the final run on a wild pitch.
  • Schumacher picked up their second RBI of the game in the second inning, but then Fredonia got on the board in the third inning with a pair of runs.
  • In the bottom of the third, Kuneth scored on a wild pitch, then Fraas picked up an RBI single to make it 9-2 for Geneseo. Sierra VanDerwarker sealed the five inning victory for the Knights with a bases loaded single in the bottom of the fifth.
QUICK FACTS:
  • Fraas and Petroski were perfect at the plate in game two, going 3-3 and 2-2, respectively.
  • Petroski threw all five innings to pick up her ninth win of the season.

Geneseo will head to Brockport tomorrow, April 24 at 3 p.m. for an Empire 8 matchup.
