Men's Lacrosse Shuts Down Brockport For 10-2 Victory

GENESEO, N.Y. - The SUNY Geneseo men's lacrosse team picked up a dominant victory over Brockport on Wednesday evening, earning their fifth-straight win by defeating the Golden Eagles 10-2. The Knights improve to 5-4 on the season and 2-0 in Empire 8 play, while Brockport falls to 3-6 and 0-2.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Geneseo opened the scoring in the first two minutes of the game, with Riley Henselder scoring an unassisted goal. Max Esposito followed it up a minute later, then Aksel Stanat capped off the first quarter scoring with a goal at the 2:38 mark. Defensively, Andrew Tittmann and the Knights shut out Brockport to take a 3-0 lead to the second quarter.
  • Owen Ellick extended the lead to 4-0 in the second before the Golden Eagles finally managed to break through the Knights defense with a man-up goal. Stanat came through with the final goal of the half off a pass from Jack Helrigel, and Geneseo took a 5-1 lead into halftime.
  • Henselder scored back-to-back goals for the only scoring of the second half, including a goal with 11 seconds left on the clock off an assist from Jimmy Atkinson.
  • The Golden Eagles cut the deficit down to 7-2 early in the fourth quarter, but Geneseo put up the final three goals of the game to secure the 10-2 victory.
QUICK FACTS:
  • Henselder led the offense with five points on four goals and one assist, while three Knights tallied two points (Atkinson, Esposito, Stanat).
  • Tittmann earned the win in goal, tallying 16 saves while letting two shots get past him.
  • Jake Starkey went 10-13 on faceoffs while picking up a team-high six ground balls. Josh Knapp led the defense with three caused turnovers.
