Women's Lacrosse Earns 15-11 Win At St. Lawrence

CANTON, N.Y. - The SUNY Geneseo women's lacrosse team picked up a 15-11 victory at St. Lawrence on Friday afternoon. The Knights improve to 4-5 with the win, while the Saints fall to 3-4.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Alaina Reina kicked off the scoring with back-to-back goals, then Lila Warner scored with a man advantage opportunity off an assist from Maddie Brown to give Geneseo a 3-0 lead to open the game. The Saints cut the lead down to 3-2, but Brown found the back of the net with just three seconds left on the clock to make it 4-2.
  • Reina capped off a back-and-forth second quarter with man-up goal to extends the Knights lead to three goals at halftime with a score of 7-4.
  • Geneseo rattled off four unanswered goals during the third quarter to go ahead 11-6, but St. Lawrence found a way to battle back and bring it to 11-9 with three minutes to go before the final quarter. Once again, Brown stepped up in the closing seconds, this time scoring off a pass from Natalie Long with just seven seconds left.
  • Two quick goals from Sophie Lyko and Reina helped thwart any ideas of a comeback from the Saints in the final 15 minutes, as the Knights held on for the 15-11 win.
QUICK FACTS:
  • Brown led the offense with six points on four goals and two assists, while Reina recorded five goals and Rosemary Mahoney chipped in two goals and two assists.
  • Emily DeJohn earned the win in goal, tallying eight saves.
  • Grace Geary filled the stat sheet for Geneseo on defense, recording four caused turnovers, three ground balls, and three draw controls.

Geneseo will return to Empire 8 action with a game at Brockport on Wednesday, April 2 at 4 p.m.
