Men's Lacrosse Nabs Fourth-Straight Win, 16-11 over Oneonta

GENESEO, N.Y. - The SUNY Geneseo men's lacrosse team battled some heavy snow flurries on Wednesday afternoon at College Stadium, but pulled out their fourth-straight win, defeating Oneonta 16-11. The Knights improve to 4-4 on the season, while the Red Dragons fall to 3-6.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • The Knights came out firing, jumping ahead 3-0 behind back-to-back goals from Aksel Stanat to open the game. Geneseo went on to extend the lead to 5-1 later in the first period following a goal from Ian Leahey, but the Red Dragons were the last to score before the buzzer cutting the deficit down to three.
  • Geneseo dominated play for the majority of the second quarter, rattling off five unanswered goals from the 6:16 mark down to 2:04. Jimmy Atkinson scored twice during the run, helping the Knights go ahead 11-3. However, Oneonta had the answer once again as time wound down, scoring twice in the final 40 seconds.
  • Colin Cahill helped the Knights remain in control of the game early in the third quarter, scoring their third goal of the period as they took the largest lead of the game at 14-6. The Red Dragons found a way to battle back and scored five of the next six goals, but a late fourth quarter goal from Atkinson put them away and sealed the 16-11 victory.
