GENESEO, N.Y. - The SUNY Geneseo women's lacrosse team opened up Empire 8 action on Saturday afternoon at College Stadium with a dominant 22-8 victory over Hartwick. The win improves the Knights record to 3-5 overall and 1-0 in the conference, while the Hawks dip to 1-4 and 0-1.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- The Knights opened up the game controlling both the offensive and defensive side of the field, going ahead 7-0 in the first quarter. Olivia Luchetti highlighted the quarter with a hat trick, while Maddie Brown chipped in three points with a goal and two assists.
- Hartwick found its rhythm at the end of the first quarter and into the second, scoring four out of the next five goals to cut the lead down to 8-4. The Knights responded with another eight-goal quarter, taking a 16-6 advantage into halftime. Geneseo had seven different goal scorers in the quarter, with Brown being the only one to find the back of the net twice.
- The Knights never let Hartwick have thoughts of a comeback in the second half, extending the lead to 13 in the third quarter, and eventually cruising to the 22-8 victory.
QUICK FACTS:
- Brown led the offensive effort with seven points on three goals and four assists, improving her season total to a team-best 35 points.
- Sophie Lyko chipped in four points, while five Knights recorded three (Rosemary Mahoney, Natalie Long, Dany Emler, Grace Reyna, and Luchetti).
- Defensively, Grace Geary tallied game highs in caused turnovers with four and ground balls with six.
- Emily DeJohn, Teagan Culhane, Taylor Rakoski, and Holly Indelicato all recorded time in goal, with DeJohn earning the win after playing the entire first half and picking up five saves.
