CLERMONT, FL - The SUNY Geneseo softball team earned a split of their two games on Wednesday in Florida, defeating Coe College in a nail-biter, 1-0, and falling to Wisconsin-Stout 10-3. The Knights move to 5-2 on the season with the 1-1 day.
The Knights opened their day with a shutout win over Coe, with
Kaitlyn Schmitz throwing the complete-game shutout and scoring the game-winning run. In the bottom of the 7th, Schmitz and
Ray Schumacher picked up back-to-back two out singles, then
Molly Griffin drove in the game-winning run. This marks Schmitz' third win in as many starts this season.
Brooke Fraas led the offense by going 2-4 at the plate.
Against Wisconsin-Stout, Geneseo got on the board first with
Gabriella Petroski driving in
Lauren Bieniek with an RBI single. The Blue Devils answered back and took a 2-1 lead, but Geneseo was able to regain the lead with RBIs from Bieniek and
Amanda Audia. Unfortunately, Geneseo was unable to keep up offensively with Wisconsin-Stout, and ultimately fell 10-3. The Knights had six players record two hits in the game: Schmitz, Schumacher,
Tara Brochu, Bieniek, Petroski, and
Katie Kuneth.
Geneseo will return to action tomorrow to take on Westminster College and Wisconsin-Whitewater at 1:30 and 4 p.m., respectively.
