GENESEO, N.Y. - NCAA postseason competition continues for the Knights this week, as the men's ice hockey team advanced to the quarterfinal round with a 3-1 win over Stevenson, and the men's and women's swimming and diving teams head to Greensboro, N.C. for their championship meet from Wednesday, March 19 through Saturday, March 22.
MEN'S ICE HOCKEY:
In the Ice Knights eighth trip to the NCAA Tournament since the 2013-14 season, they will advance to the quarterfinal round at #3 Aurora following a
3-1 home win against Stevenson in the opening round. Geneseo enters the quarterfinals with a record of 23-4-1 and the #6 seed for the NCAA Tournament. This marks their eighth season with 20 or more wins since the 2013-14 season, and they now hold an overall record of 9-8-2 in NCAA's. Aurora boasts a record of 24-4-1 and are in the NCAA Tournament for the first time in the 11-year history of the program. Follow along from home -

Geneseo earned their automatic bid by winning the UCHC postseason tournament with wins over Manhattanville and Utica. In the championship game against Utica, sophomoreÂ
Filip Wiberg was named the tournament MVP after opening the scoring in the game and finishing with two goals. SeniorsÂ

Payne Gatewood joined Wiberg on the All-Tournament Team. The Ice Knights took an extremely quick 2–0 lead in the game, scoring twice in the opening three minutes. Geneseo went on to lead 4–0 by the end of the first period and managed to hold off a comeback attempt by the Pioneers for the 7–3 win.
QUICK FACTS:
- Sophomore Sean Melso was named the UCHC Defensive Player, leading all defensemen in scoring with 24 points on eight goals and 16 assists in 26 games played this season. He was a league-best plus-26 with 21 points (six goals and 15 assists) in 20 UCHC regular season contests.
- Head Coach Chris Schultz was named the UCHC Coach of the Year by his peers, leading Geneseo to a 16–3–1 regular season record in the conference. Schultz enters the quarterfinal round with an all-time record of 322–139–31.
- Peter Morgan leads the Ice Knights in scoring this season, tallying 34 points on 14 goals and 20 assists. Wiberg, the UCHC Tournament MVP, is second on the team with 31 points on 15 goals and 16 assists.
- Goaltenders Adam Harris and Jacob Torgner split time in goal this season, and both have a save percentage over .900, with Harris leading the way at 2.34 goals allowed per game and 317 saves. Harris played all 60 minutes in the opening round game against Stevenson and made 29 saves with allowing just one goal.
- The quarterfinal matchup will mark the first meeting between the two teams.
SWIMMING AND DIVING:
The SUNY Geneseo men's and women's swimming and diving teams will send 10 student-athletes to the NCAA Championship meet after winning the programs first Empire 8 Championships earlier this winter. Trent Makowiec highlights the qualifiers for Geneseo as the NCAA runner-up in both diving events last year, and he will look to capture his first national title after qualifying in the NCAA Regional Meet with a top-two finish in both the one and three-meter dives. Makowiec was also named the Empire 8 Diver of the Meet after winning both events at the Empire 8 Championship Meet.
Brian Pabisch was named the Empire 8 Outstanding Swimmer of the meet, and will compete at NCAA's in the 50 and 100 yard freestyles, as well as the 200 and 400 yard medley relays, and the 200, 400, and 800 yard freestyle relays. On the women's side,
Alise Hale was named the Empire 8 Outstanding Swimmer of the Meet and will compete in the relays as well as the 200 yard IM, 100 yard butterfly, and 200 yard butterfly. Hale enters the 200 yard butterfly with the seventh best time in the country (2:01.97), and teammate
Alex Sotek enters the 50 yard freestyle with the seventh fastest time as well (23.08).
