UTICA, N.Y. - The SUNY Geneseo men's track and field team traveled to Utica for the Empire 8 Championship this weekend and came away with the program's first Empire 8 title. The Knights recorded a total of 234 points, out-scoring second place Brockport with 166. The championship marks the program's eighth-straight conference title and 15th overall.
DAY ONE RECAP:
Jacob Miller provided a big highlight for the Knights, recording a meet record in the 400m with a time of 48.27. The Knights added 15 more points to Miller's 10 in the event, as
Sam Belmont,
Arjun Ojha, and
Andrew Kent took second, fifth, and sixth, respectively. In the mile, Geneseo placed four runners in the top eight for 18 points, with
Mike Taranto leading the way in second at 4:12.62.
Connor Hitt,
Owen Murphy, and
Micah McCulley joined Taranto in the top eight. The Knights continued to put up impressive performances in the 5000m, placing six runners in the top eight.
Charlie Wilson led the way with a facility record of 14:49.94, while
Anson Butler,
Pierce Young,
Emerson Comer,
Austin Schoen, and Kile Owens joined him in the top eight. The team of
Logan Baker,
Matthew Sheehan,
Brian Kenny, and Ojha rounded out the track events by placing first in the Distance Medley Relay at 10:24.55, a facility record.
In the field events,
Raymond Trottier picked up eight points for the Knights in the shot put with a distance of 15.07m, while
Sean Stewart and
Trey Feirman placed top eight in the long jump and pole vault, respectively.
DAY TWO RECAP:
Brendan Style kicked off the track events with a first place finish in the 60m hurdles, placing first at 8.30 seconds, while
Jackson Gloskey and
Cory Jarvis joined him in the top eight. In the heptathlon,
Daniel Pagan and
Jonathan McNamara chipped in 13 more points for the Knights by finishing second and fourth, respectively. In the 60m,
Bergen Caprood took second at 7.00 seconds, while
Jack Towns took fifth. Geneseo saw five runners place in the top eight for the 800m, with
Matthew Sheehan leading the way in second at 1:54.03. Towns picked up a first place finish for Geneseo in the 200m at 22.04 seconds, with
Jacob Miller joining him in the top eight.
Pierce Young led a group of five runners in the top eight in the 3000m with a time of 8:26.44, marking a new meet record.
Charlie Wilson and
Mike Taranto took second and third, respectively, while
Anson Butler and
Emerson Comer joined them in the top eight. Rounding out the track events was the 4x400 relay team of
Sam Belmont, Sheehan, Miller, and
Andrew Kent who set a facility and meet record with a time of 3:17.73.
In the field events, Geneseo saw six athletes earn points in the triple jump, with
Sean Stewart in third,
Chris Desiderio in fifth, and Style in seventh. In the high jump, Jarvis finished third for the Knights and McNamara took seventh. For the full results from the meet,
