WEEKEND PREVIEW: Track and Field, Women's Basketball Look to Capture First E8 Titles | Men's Ice Hockey Set to Host Manhattanville in UCHC Semifinals | Diving Heads to NCAA Regionals

GENESEO, N.Y. - The Knights are set to take on a huge weekend of postseason competition with six teams in action. Men's and women's track and field, as well as women's basketball, will compete in their respective conference championships, looking to bring home their program's first Empire 8 trophy. Track and Field travels to Utica on Friday and Saturday for a two day meet beginning at 2 p.m. on Friday, while women's basketball heads to top seeded Brockport on Saturday at 2 p.m. Men's Ice Hockey will host their playoff game this Saturday, taking on Manhattanville at 7 p.m. in the UCHC semifinals. Rounding out the action-packed weekend is men's and women's diving, who will go to Ithaca for the NCAA Regional Diving meet as they look to claim their spots for the NCAA Championship.

The SUNY Geneseo Men's Track Team will travel to Utica for the Empire 8 Conference Championships this weekend. The Knights are ranked 24th in the USTFCCCA Division III national rankings and second in the Niagara Region heading into Saturday. Geneseo has been making Empire 8 Conference history in their inaugural season, breaking four conference records and holding top performances in seven different events.

The SUNY Geneseo women's track and field team enters their first Empire 8 Championship Meet with high expectations, ranked fifth in the latest NCAA Division III Women's Indoor Track and Field Rating Index. The Knights have put up dominant performances already this season, holding the top performance in 12 events so far this season, including four conference records set already this season.

WOMEN'S BASKETBALL: Saturday, March 1 at #1 Brockport - 2 p.m. | LIVE STATS - WATCH
The SUNY Geneseo Women's Basketball team (21-6) will compete for an Empire 8 Conference Championship on Saturday, March 1st, at 2 p.m. against SUNY Brockport (24-3). The two former SUNYAC Conference members will clash in their inaugural Empire 8 seasons for a conference title and ticket to extend their season. The Knights enter the game as the #2 seed in the conference and look to take down the #1 seed Golden Eagles on their floor.
Matchup Overview:
The Knights fell in both meetings against Brockport this season with a 72-73 loss in Geneseo on Jan. 28th and a 62-75 loss in the final regular season game on Feb. 18th in Brockport.
Tournament Overview:
Geneseo earned their spot in the final by taking down the #7 seed Alfred University Saxons 68-43 in the quarterfinals on Saturday, February 22nd. The Knights held the Saxons to 14 points in the second half to take home a comfortable victory at Schrader Gym.
The Knights had no problem taking down the #3 St. John Fisher Cardinals on Wednesday, February 26th, at Schrader Gym in the semi-finals. Geneseo advanced with a 72-54 win where they held the Cardinals to a 25.4 shooting percentage throughout four quarters while making more than half of their shots with a 50.9 percentage.

MEN'S ICE HOCKEY: Saturday, March 1 vs. #3 Manhattanvile at 7 p.m. - Ira S. Wilson Arena | LIVE STATS - WATCH
The SUNY Geneseo Men's Hockey Team will take on the No. 3 seed Manhattanville Valiants (10-15-1) on Saturday, March 1st, at 7 p.m. in the UCHC semi-finals. The No. 2 seed Geneseo Ice Knights bring a 20-4-1 overall and 16-3-1 conference record into Saturday's semi-final as they look to make the conference final in their first season in the UCHC.
Ice Knights Vs. Valiants
Geneseo has gotten the best of Manhattanville in all four meetings this season. The Ice Knights won both match-ups at home in November, by way of 7-2 and 2-1 victories. The two inner-conference foes met in Rye, N.Y. in late January and early February, which resulted in 5-4 and 4-3 victories for the Ice Knights.
The Valiants took down the No. 6 seed Brockport Golden Eagles on Wednesday night in the quarterfinals by a score of 4-1 to earn a trip to Geneseo.
Other Side of the Bracket
No.1 Utica will host No. 4 Chatham on Saturday, March 1st, at 7 p.m. in Utica to book a ticket to the UCHC final on March 8th.
Ice Knights' Preview/Players to Watch
Geneseo is currently ranked #6 in Division III USCHO poll leading up to Saturday's tilt. In addition to their national ranking, the Ice Knights lead the UCHC with 4.8 goals per game and rank amongst the nation's top in that category. Ice Knights' forward Peter Morgan is tied for second in the conference in points with 29 (10 goals and 19 assists). Forward Zach Purcell also sits second in the conference in scoring with 15 goals. Goaltenders Jacob Torgner and Adam Harris have each recorded 10 wins on the season and hold save percentages over .910.

MEN'S AND WOMEN'S DIVING: Friday, Feb. 28 at NCAA Diving Regionals, 2 p.m. Ithaca, N.Y. - WATCH | LIVE RESULTS / Saturday, March 1, 12 p.m. - WATCH | LIVE RESULTS
The SUNY Geneseo men's and women's diving teams will head to Ithaca this weekend as each diver will hope to punch a ticket to the NCAA Championship later in March. The Knights will be sending four athletes to compete at Regionals with Lydia Benjamin representing the women's team, and Trent Makowiec, Greg Meder, and Evan Rigal representing the men's team.
Regional Preview:
Trent Makowiec is coming off a dominant performance at the Empire 8 meet, where he was named Diver of the Meet after winning both the one and three-meter events. He set a school record in the three-meter (6 dives) with a score of 404.20, and Empire 8 championship meet records in both the one-meter (11 dives) and three-meter (11 dives). Makowiec earned five weekly honors from the Empire 8 this season, and will look to book another trip to the NCAA Championship meet, where he finished as the runner-up in both events. Greg Meder has been right behind Makowiec this season, putting up impressive performances all year long. Meder will also look to book a return trip to NCAA's, where he earned First-Team All-American status in the one-meter with a fifth-place finish. Lydia Benjamin and Evan Rigal will both look to secure their first trip to the NCAA Championship meet.
