GENEVA, N.Y. - The SUNY Geneseo women's lacrosse team opened its 2025 season at No. 5 William Smith saturday afternoon, and fell by a score of 16-9. Highlighting the Knights season opener was graduate attacker
Maddie Brown, who scored four goals to become the 19th player in program history to record her 100th career goal.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Geneseo got on the board first, with Lila Warner scoring two minutes into the action off a pass from Katie Rajkowski. The Herons were able to find an answer and rattle off four unanswered goals, but Brown was able to find the back of the net before the end of the quarter for the Knights second goal.
- Brown, Rosemary Mahoney, and Sophie Lyko scored three straight goals for Geneseo to close out the second quarter of action, cutting the deficit to 7-5 going into halftime.
- The Knights kept the game within reach going into the fourth quarter after Brown tallied a goal with just eight seconds on the clock, bringing the score to 11-8 heading to the final 15 minutes.
- Unfortunately, Geneseo couldn't pull out the comeback win and ultimately fell, 16-9.
