Reigle Sets New Single Season Assist Record; Women's Basketball Defeats Alfred 73-52

GENESEO, N.Y. - The SUNY Geneseo women's basketball team picked up its sixth-straight win on Saturday afternoon, defeating Alfred by a score of 73-52. Highlighting the game was senior point guard Mackenzie Reigle, who recorded her 187th assist of the season, breaking the program record for assists in a season, which was set by P.J. McTigue in the 1998-99 season.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • The Knights quickly earned an 11-point advantage in the game, going ahead 15-4 just over six minutes into the action. Geneseo had five different players score during the early run, but Alfred caught fire from behind the arc to close out the quarter, knocking down four three's in the closing minutes to make it a four-point game at 20-16.
  • The Saxons continued to keep the game close in the second quarter, cutting the deficit to two points at the five minute mark. However, Kristin Suydam stepped up in the final minute for the Knights, converting a post move in the paint and then draining a three to send Geneseo into halftime up by nine points.
  • The Knights kept the momentum going in the third quarter, out-scoring Alfred 22-12 over the 10 minute period. Grace Galgano and Reigle highlighted the quarter for Geneseo, combining for 17 points on 6-7 shooting from the field.
  • Geneseo's defense was able to keep any thoughts of a comeback at bay in the final 10 minutes, holding the Saxons to just eight points en route to the 73-52 victory.
QUICK FACTS:
  • Reigle was the leading scorer for Geneseo, tallying 18 points to go along with nine rebounds and six assists. She has now tallied 490 career assists to go along with the single season record, putting her third all-time for assists.
  • Galgano chipped in 16 points and eight rebounds, while Suydam added 13 points and Maggie McGrane recorded 12.
  • Geneseo shot 51.7 percent from the field, while limiting the Saxons to just 29 percent.

Geneseo will head to Brockport for the regular season finale on Tuesday at 5:30 p.m., with the Empire 8 regular season title and the No. 1 seed for the playoffs on the line.
