Women's Basketball Tops Houghton, 58-50

HOUGHTON, N.Y. - The SUNY Geneseo women's basketball team picked up its fifth-straight win on Friday evening at Houghton, defeating the Highlanders by a score of 58-50. The victory improves the Knights record to 18-5 overall and 13-1 in the Empire 8, while Houghton falls to 16-7 and 7-7 in the conference.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Geneseo got off to a quick start, jumping ahead 7-0 after Kiley Snow dropped in a three on the opening possession, then Snow added two free throws and a layup from Mackenzie Reigle. The Highlanders worked their way back to just a two-point deficit at 9-7, but a three from Kristin Suydam, and then a pair of shots from deep by Reigle in the closing minutes helped the Knights lead by 12 going to the second quarter.
  • Reigle's hot start to the game continued in the second quarter, as she scored the first two baskets to make it a 25-9 advantage. Geneseo's defense continued to stifle the Highlanders, holding them to just five points in the second quarter. Snow drained a three in the final seconds to give the Knights a 30-14 advantage going to halftime.
  • Suydam opened up the scoring for Geneseo in the second half by registering their first six points. The Knights went on to maintain their lead, winning the third quarter by a one point margin to enter the final 10 minutes with a 17 point advantage.
  • The Highlanders made a furious comeback attempt in the fourth quarter, but the Knights lead proved to be too large to surpass and Geneseo earned the 58-50 victory.
QUICK FACTS:
  • Reigle dropped a season-high 22 points for the Knights, while tacking on nine assists and six rebounds. Reigle now sits at 185 assists on the season, the top mark in NCAA Division III, and just two away from breaking the program record.
  • Suydam and Snow joined Reigle in double digits with 14 and 12 points, respectively.
