Men's Basketball Survives Late Push From Keuka, Wins 64-58

GENESEO, N.Y. - The SUNY Geneseo men's basketball team pulled out a thrilling 64-58 victory on Saturday afternoon against Keuka. The win improves the Knights to 4-4 overall and 1-0 in the Empire 8.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • The Knights came out hot, jumping ahead 6-0 after forcing back-to-back turnovers on the opening possessions for the Wolves. Robert Pericolosi scored six of the first eight points for the Knights, as he helped propel Geneseo to a 19-9 lead just seven minutes into the action.
  • Keuka found a way to flip the momentum, going on a 13-2 run to take their first lead of the game. However, the Knights played strong on both ends of the floor down the stretch, closing out the half with a 32-26 lead.
  • Early in the second half, Geneseo saw shots go in from Jaiyden Jones, Jackson Casey, Josh Garelle, and Pericolosi to take an 11 point lead at 46-35. Keuka began to slowly chip away at the lead, ultimately tying the game at 54 with just over five minutes left.
  • Trailing 58-56 with under two minutes to go, Wallace Rahmaan Jr. beat the shot clock with an off-balance deep three-pointer to put the Knights back ahead by one. Geneseo's defense continued to step up down the stretch, forcing tough shots and keeping Keuka off the scoreboard for the remainder of the game. Casey iced the win with a driving layup with 18 seconds on the clock.
QUICK FACTS:
  • Garelle led the offensive effort with 19 points on 8-12 shooting from the field, as well as grabbing eight rebounds.
  • Pericolosi dropped 15 points and eight rebounds, while Rahmaan Jr. chipped in nine points.
  • The Knights have now won three of their last four match ups against the Wolves.
WHAT'S NEXT?
Geneseo will enjoy the semester break before returning to action on January 3 against Hilbert.
