Women's Basketball Tops Manhattanville Behind Huge Third Quarter

PURCHASE, N.Y. - The SUNY Geneseo women's basketball team battled past Manhattanville University on Sunday afternoon, earning their first victory of the 2025-26 season with a hard-fought 65-62 win. The Knights win was powered by a massive third quarter effort, where they outscored the Valiants 25-11.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • The Knights came out strong in the first quarter, matching the Valiants shot for shot early on. After the score was tied at 10, Geneseo began to lose momentum, and Manhattanville closed the opening frame with a 19-10 advantage.
  • The Valiants extended their lead as the second quarter got underway, but Geneseo battled back to pull within one at 23-22. Manhattanville responded with a surge, ending the first half ahead 38-27.
  • The Knights found their offensive rhythm in the third quarter, cruising ahead 52-49 with Grace Galgano contributing seven points in the frame. The Knights shot 77 percent from the field in the quarter, while limiting Manhattanville to just 20 percent.
  • Geneseo maintained its composure in the final quarter, holding a narrow edge as Manhattanville pressed to close the gap. With the score at 56-55, Galgano knocked down a three-pointer to give the Knights a 59-55 cushion. From there, the Knights held firm to close out the game with a 65-62 victory.

  • Grace Galgano finished with a team-high 13 points, as Maggie McGrane and Kristin Suydam added 10 apiece.
  • Eva Elliot led the team with seven rebounds while shooting 50.0% from the field and chipping in three assists.
