CANTON, N.Y. - The SUNY Geneseo men's basketball team opened its 2025-26 season on the road on Saturday afternoon, traveling to St. Lawrence. The Knights were unable to pull out the win in their season opener, falling 80-72.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- The Knights got off to a slow start in the game, trailing 24-6 eight minutes into the action. However, the Knights went on a good run to close out the half, and cut the deficit to 10 points after Landon Brunken dropped in a pair of free throws with no time left on the clock.
- Trevor Hofer drained a three early in the second half to cut the lead down to seven, but the Saints were able to bounce back and regain a double-digit lead.
- Geneseo continued to push for a comeback, and ultimately found their way back to just a five point deficit with under a minute to play, but the Knights ran out of time and couldn't pull out the win, falling 80-72.
QUICK FACTS:
- Josh Garelle led the Knights on offense with 22 points, while also grabbing a team-high eight rebounds.
- Robert Pericolosi (17), Hofer (11), and Colin Gentile (10) also chipped in double-digit points.
- Geneseo was effective at getting to the free throw line, knocking down 23 free throws in the game.

The Knights will head to the Vassar College Tournament next weekend, taking on the hosts Friday night at 7:30 p.m.
