Men's Basketball Comes Up Short At Vassar

GENESEO, N.Y. - The SUNY Geneseo men's basketball team traveled to Vassar for the opening round of the Hochberg Family Tip-Off Tournament, where they fell to the Brewers, 83-68.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • The Knights found themselves struggling on offense early, and faced a 13-point deficit at 19-6 just over six minutes into the action. However, Geneseo responded in a big way, going on a 20-3 run to take a 26-22 lead.
  • The Knights managed to maintain the slim lead throughout the remainder of the first half, taking a 38-36 advantage to halftime behind a pair of baskets in the final two minutes from Jaiyden Jones and Josh Garelle.
  • With the score tied at 45 early in the second half, Vassar began to pull away from Geneseo. The Knights ended up trailing by double digits with seven minutes left to go in the game, and couldn't find a way to flip the momentum and mount a comeback.
QUICK FACTS:
  • Garelle led Geneseo offensively, dropping 21 points on 9-14 shooting from the field.
  • Robert Pericolosi (17), Colin Gentile (10), and Landon Brunken (10) all joined Garelle in double digit scoring.
  • Pericolosi and Garelle each tallied a double-double in the game, leading the team in rebounding with 15 and 13, respectively.
WHAT'S NEXT?
Geneseo will take on Colby-Sawyer College in the consolation game tomorrow at 2 p.m. at Vassar.
