GENESEO, N.Y. - The SUNY Geneseo men's basketball team couldn't pull out a win in their trip to Ohio this weekend, falling to Otterbein 83-72 on Saturday evening. The Knights dip to 2-4 on the season while the Cardinals improve to 5-0.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- The Knights came out hot, with James Burton knocking down a three to open the game, then Josh Garelle knocking down a jumper to make it a quick 6-0 lead. Geneseo held their lead throught the first five minutes of action, but Otterbein was eventually able to break through the Knights defense.
- With the score tied at 23-23 and six minutes remaining in the half, Otterbein went on a quick run to jump ahead by eight points with two minutes to go. However, the Knights closed out the final minutes on a 5-1 run sparked by a three from Colin Gentile.
- The Cardinals came out of halftime firing on all cylinders, earning a 17 point lead halfway through the second. Geneseo went on to trail by as many as 20, but battled back to cut it to a nine-point deficit with two minutes to go in the game. Unfortunately, the Knights couldn't pull off the comeback and fell 83-72.
QUICK FACTS:
- Jaiyden Jones led the offensive effort with 21 points on 8-12 shooting from the field. Garelle and Burton joined him in double digits with 14 and 12, respectively.
- The Knights shot 49.2 percent from the field, and 52.4 percent from three.
- This marked the first match up between the two teams since the 1974 season.

Geneseo will have their home opener on Tuesday, Nov. 25 against Alfred St. at 5 p.m.
