GENEVA, N.Y. - The SUNY Geneseo women's basketball team squared off against William Smith on Tuesday evening, and earned a commanding 82-53 victory. The Knights have now defeated the Herons in the last seven meetings between the teams as Geneseo moves to 4-2 overall on the season.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- In the first quarter, the Knights struck first with a jumper in the paint from Kristin Suydam. Geneseo maintained its lead through the quarter, though the Herons stayed close. By the buzzer, the Knights held a 12-10 advantage.
- Geneseo found its groove in the second quarter, scoring 28 points while the Herons put up 17. The Knights' offensive surge was led by Grace Galgano, who tallied 11 points. Suydam, Aliza Whitehead, and Maggie McGrane each chipped in with a three-pointer as Geneseo carried a 40-27 lead into halftime.
- Geneseo picked up right where it left off in the third quarter, with Galgano getting the ball rolling with a pair of layups. The Knights held strong, closing the quarter with a 57-40 lead as the clock expired.
- In the fourth quarter, the Knights put up 25 points while shooting 10-for-16 from the field to seal the game with a 82-53 win.
QUICK FACTS:
- Galgano powered the Knights' attack with 19 points, bringing her season total to a team-leading 71. She also collected 10 rebounds (three offensive, seven defensive).
- Suydam and McGrane each shot 5-for-7 from the field, contributing 14 and 11 points, respectively.
- Geneseo scored 12 second-chance points and added 21 points off turnovers in the contest.
