GENESEO, N.Y. - The SUNY Geneseo women's volleyball team competed against Hartwick on Friday night, dropping the match 3-1. The Knights now hold a 13-11 overall record and a 6-4 mark in conference play.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Hartwick wasted no time setting the tone in the opening set, storming ahead with six unanswered points before Geneseo got on the board. The Knights fought to close the gap, but the Hawks surged ahead to take a 25-18 win. Despite the setback, Peyton Cole and Kathryn Barba provided sparks for Geneseo's offense, each stringing together three straight kills to keep the Knights within striking distance.
- Hartwick carried their momentum into the second set. Despite the Knights' attempt to narrow the deficit, the Hawks maintained their edge to secure a 25-17 victory. Ellie McLennan tallied two service aces in the effort.
- The Hawks held a steady lead through the first half of the third set, but the Knights mounted an impressive comeback after being down by seven to tie the score at 17. From there, the Knights stayed in attack mode to finish with a 25-19 win.
- The fourth set was a battle from the opening serve, with neither team giving an inch. With the score knotted at 19, Hartwick delivered four consecutive points to take a 23-19 lead. Geneseo answered with one, but the Hawks shut the door, taking the set 25-20.
