GENESEO, N.Y. - The SUNY Geneseo field hockey team clinched the Empire 8 regular season title on Wednesday afternoon, defeating Houghton 7-2 to improve to 18-1 overall and 10-0 in conference. The win was highlighted by
Ella Greico recording her 100th career point, becoming just the sixth player in program history to reach the milestone.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- The Knights wasted no time jumping ahead, as Ava Harman scored in the third minute off a pass from Ella Greico. Greico then picked up two more assists in the first quarter, picking up a point on a pair of goals scored by Halle Senfield.
- Greico continued her hot start, scoring back-to-back goals between the second and third quarters. With the Knights leading 5-0, the New Hartford, N.Y. native had scored or assisted on every goal scored.
- The Highlanders pushed back in the final 15 minutes, scoring twice, but goals from Harman and Sam Lewis helped seal the 7-2 win and regular season title.
QUICK FACTS:
- In just her junior season, Greico became the sixth player in program history to tally 100 career points. Her historic junior campaign is now just four points away from breaking the single season point record, and two goals away from the single season goal record.
- Harman and Senfield registered their eighth and ninth goal of the season, while Lewis tallied her eighth.
- Bridget Schafer picked up her 18th win of the season in goal.
- This marks the second-straight season the Knights have gone undefeated in Empire 8 play and won the regular season title.
