CAMILLUS, N.Y. - The SUNY Geneseo women's golf team traveled to Camillus Country Club on Tuesday for the Northeast Women's Golf Conference (NWGC) Fall Invitational, and came away with a tie for first place with St. John Fisher. Additionally, freshman
Avery Smith placed first overall at the Invitational with a score of 86.
Smith's round was highlighted by shooting a 41 on the back nine, posting four pars and a birdie on the par 5 16th hole. Smith tacked on one par on the front en route to a 45, allowing her to finish first overall at the match, beating out second place by two strokes. Teammate
Jillian Draper was one of two players to tie for second at an 88, shooting a 43 on the front nine and 45 on the back nine. Draper tallied five pars in the round, as well as a birdie on the par 5 12th hole.
Olivia Johnson took 8th overall for the Knights with a 97, where she posted three pars over the 18 hole course.
Lydia Hickey rounded out the top four for Geneseo with a 98, posting an impressive two birdies on the back nine, the par 4 10th hole and par 5 16th hole. As a team, the Knights played the 16th hole one under par, at least six shots better than the next team.
The Fall Invitational wraps up play in the fall for the Knights as they will turn their attention towards the spring semester.
