GENESEO, N.Y. – The SUNY Geneseo women's soccer team successfully defended their home field in Empire 8 action on Saturday afternoon, defeating Alfred 2-0 on senior day.  After this win, the Knights improve to 4-4-6 on the year and 4-1-3 in conference play. Abby Dunnigan, Julia Carter, Maddie Rolston, Abby Foster, Madeline Weld, Nadia Jaworowicz, & Riley Griffin were all honored with a brief pre-game ceremony.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

• Geneseo had Alfred on their back foot early, in the fifth minute of the game Foster, Carter, & Griffin all had shots on goal back-to-back. Griffin was able to find the back of the net on the second rebound and put the Knights up 1-0.
• For the rest of the first half both teams were able to disrupt each other, and the defensive pressure was being applied well both by teams. Geneseo would hold their 1-0 lead going into halftime.
• The Geneseo defense opened the second half strong, they didn't allow Alfred to get any momentum while also creating shot opportunities for their forwards. Jaworowicz had five shots that were narrowly saved within a 13-minute period in the second half.
• In the 68^th minute of the game, Foster crossed the ball over from the left side of the goal and Jaworowicz scored off the feed, giving the Knights a 2-0 lead.
• The Knights would only allow one shot the rest of the game and end the senior day celebrations with a 2-0 victory.

QUICK FACTS:

• The Knights held Alfred to zero shots on goal and four shots total.
• Jaworowicz and Griffin each had a big senior day performance, scoring one goal and adding nine shots total to the stat sheet.
• Emily McLouth earned the win in goal for Geneseo.
