Field Hockey Wins Double Overtime Thriller At Susquehanna

SELINSGROVE, P.A. - The SUNY Geneseo field hockey team traveled to Susquehanna on Sunday afternoon, and trailing 1-0 late in the fourth quarter, the Knights were able to pull out a 2-1 victory in double overtime. The Knights improve to 13-1 overall with the win, and pick up their ninth-straight win.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • The River Hawks controlled the game early, holding the Knights back on offense by not allowing a shot in the first half. However, Geneseo's defense held strong, stopping both shots on goal that they saw in the first two quarters.
  • Both offenses saw more opportunities in the third quarter, but neither could find the back of the goal and the game entered the fourth quarter tied at 0-0.
  • Susquehanna was able to strike first, scoring with just under 10 minutes left to play in the game. The Knights weren't ready to leave without a fight, and Sam Lewis was able to score the equalizer off assists from Aubree Wenner and Ella Greico.
  • Neither team was able to score the game-winner in the first overtime period, but Geneseo picked up the game-winner in the second overtime off the stick of Wenner just over five minutes into the overtime.
QUICK FACTS:
  • Wenner's game-winner marked her 11th goal of the season, while Lewis recorded her fifth.
  • Bridget Schafer tallied six saves in goal to record the win.
  • The Knights are approaching their longest win-streak from last season, where they won 12-straight from Sept. 18 to Oct. 29.

Geneseo will return to Empire 8 action on Oct. 15 at Alfred at 4 p.m.
