ELMIRA, N.Y. – The SUNY Geneseo women's soccer team traveled to face off against the Elmira College Soaring Eagles in Empire 8 action on Saturday afternoon. The Knights put on a very strong performance and were able to come away with a 3-0 victory, which brings the Knights record to 3-4-5 on the year and 3-1-2 in conference games.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Geneseo started off the game strong, putting multiple shots on the net and pressuring Elmira's defense and goalkeeper.
- After a multitude of shots by the team, Riley Griffin was able score a goal in the 27th minute of the game. Griffin, taking a penalty kick, put the ball into the bottom right corner of the net to give the Knights the 1-0 lead.
- Geneseo would hold off Elmira for the remainder of the half, not allowing a shot for the remainder of the period.
- Ten minutes into the second half, Isabella Lavrynenko took a corner kick that set the ball up in a perfect spot for Nadia Jaworowicz to head it into the net, putting the Knights up 2-0.
- With one minute to go in the game, Addison Kensey scored on a feed from Ella Yartym to give the Knights a 3-0 win.
QUICK FACTS:
- The Knights out shot Elmira 37-1 with 24 shots being on goal.
- Emily McLouth picked up the win in goal after registering a full 90 minutes in net.
- Thirteen different Knights registered shots in the game. Griffin, Kensey, & Ashley Pawelczyk all led the way with five.
