Men's Soccer Celebrates Senior Day With 2-1 Win Over Elmira

GENESEO, N.Y. - The SUNY Geneseo men's soccer team picked up a big Empire 8 victory on Saturday afternoon, defeating Elmira 2-1 on senior day. The Knights remained perfect in Empire 8 action by improving to 6-0-0, while handing the Soaring Eagles their first conference loss to drop them to 4-1-2. Geneseo honored its three seniors, Dylan Thody, Kyle Arraiano, and Nathan Shin with a brief pre-game ceremony.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • The Knights put the pressure on Elmira's defense early, and ended up earning a penalty kick after a foul inside the box on Thody. Thody went on to take the penalty kick, and easily bury it in the bottom left corner for a 1-0 lead in the 15th minute.
  • Geneseo kept the pressure on for the remainder of the half, registering 15 shots while limiting the Soaring Eagles to just five. The Knights were unable to tack on an insurance goal in the closing minutes after a red card on Elmira put them a man-up, but still entered the second half with a one-goal lead.
  • Thody scored his second goal of the game in the 68th minute, corraling a clear attempt off a corner kick and firing a shot to the top right corner. Thody's second goal proved to be the game winner, after Elmira scored with just 40 seconds left to play.
QUICK FACTS:
  • Thody recorded his team-leading 11th goal of the season, the first time since the 2022 season that Geneseo has had a player register 10 or more goals in a season (Tyler Lewandowski).
  • Max Crothall recorded his sixth win of the season, picking up four saves in the game.
  • Geneseo currently sits atop the Empire 8 standings with a 6-0 record, while Brockport is in second at 5-1-1.
WHAT'S NEXT?
The Knights will return to College Stadium on Wednesday to host Nazareth at 4 p.m.
