UTICA, N.Y. - The SUNY Geneseo women's basketball team played in the programs first Empire 8 contest on Tuesday afternoon at SUNY Poly, and earned a 73-44 victory. The win improves the Knights record to 6-4 on the season, while SUNY Poly falls to 1-8.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Both offenses had a slow start to the game, but a layup from Audrey Hintz three minutes into the action kick started the Geneseo scoring. Later in the first quarter, Hintz capped off a 10-2 start to the game with another layup, and the Knights went on to lead 14-5 after the opening 10 minutes.
- Geneseo's offense kept the momentum rolling into the second quarter, dropping 22 points in the frame to help extend the lead to 36-21 at halftime.
- Kiley Snow scored the first five points of the third quarter for Geneseo, then a three from Grace Galgano pushed the lead to 27 just past the halfway mark of the third quarter. Brianna Beebe capped off a dominant third quarter for the Knights with a layup on the final possession, making it a 55-33 advantage.
- Geneseo kept any hopes of a comeback attempt at bay in the final 10 minutes, and earned the 73-44 win to open conference play.
