Men's Basketballs Falls To Houghton

GENESEO, N.Y. - The SUNY Geneseo men's basketball team couldn't pull out a win against Houghton on Saturday afternoon, falling by a score of 82-65. The defeat drops the Knights to 5-12 overall and 2-6 in Empire 8 play, while the Highlanders improve to 9-8 and 4-4 in the conference.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • After a slow to the game for both offenses, Trevor Hofer put the Knights on the board just over three minutes into the game with three-point shot. Josh Garelle and Robert Pericolosi combined for the next seven points for the Knights, but they trailed 15-11 with 13 minutes left in the first half.
  • Geneseo continued to fight to keep the game within reach, but hot shooting from the Highlanders helped them extend a 42-24 lead going into halftime.
  • Trailing by as many as 19 points to start the second half, the Knights found their rhythm and went on a 14-0 run to cut the lead down to five at 49-44. Colin Gentile capped off the run with an and-one layup, but Geneseo couldn't close the gap any further.
  • The Highlanders were able to make some clutch shots from deep to keep the Geneseo comeback at bay, and ultimately the Knights fell by a score of 82-65.
QUICK FACTS:
  • Garelle led the Knights in scoring with 17 on 7-10 shooting from the field. Hofer and Pericolosi joined him in double digits with 10 each.
