Knights Fall 7-6 In OT

GENESEO, N.Y.- The SUNY Geneseo Men's Hockey Team fell 7-6 to the Chatham Cougars in Overtime on Friday night. The Ice Knights drop to 13-2-1 overall and 9-1-1 in UCHC play.   

HOW IT HAPPENED:  

  • The Cougars struck first 3:41 into the game. Zach Purcell tied it on an unassisted powerplay goal at 13:57. Purcell doubled down less than a minute later to give the Ice Knights a 2-1 lead, with Luke Panchisin and Filip Wiberg on the assists. Chatham responded with back-to-back goals of their own to take a 3-2 lead into the locker room.  

  • Cooper Fensterstock redirected a shot from Henri Spoof at 5:33 in the second. Giuseppe Fiorillo with the secondary assist on the goal. Chatham took back the lead on the powerplay at 6:16. Captain Peter Morgan beat the goalie with a right shot into the top corner at 9:08. Panchisin and Samuel Beaulne on the assist. The Cougars ended the second with two goals to take a 6-4 to end the second.  

  • In the third, Panchisin deflected Sean Melsos shot into the cage at 5:36. Tommy Winn was credited with the secondary assist. Purcell completed the hat trick at 16:09 to tie the game, with Panchisin and Winn with the assists to send the game to overtime. Chatham found the winning goal in overtime to end the game.  

QUICK FACTS:  

  • Zach Purcell recorded his first career hat trick on a game-high seven shots on target during tonight's tilt. He now leads the Ice Knights with nine goals on the year.  

  • Luke Panchisin recorded a team-high four points on one goal and three assists. He leads the team in both points and assists.  

  • The Ice Knights are now 2-1 against the Cougars in three UCHC matchups.

The Ice Knights take on Chatham (5-10-1) again on Saturday, January 25th, at 4 p.m.
