Men's Basketball Comes Up Short Against Alfred

GENESEO, N.Y. - The SUNY Geneseo men's basketball team couldn't pull out a win on Friday evening, falling in a nail-biter to Alfred, 70-67. The loss drops Geneseo to 5-11 on the season and 2-5 in Empire 8 play, while Alfred improves to 8-8 and 4-3 in conference action.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • The Knights opened the game with a 10-6 lead, highlighted by a pair of three's from Jackson Casey and Trevor Hofer. The two teams traded the lead throughout the first half, but after the score was tied at 27-27, the Saxons closed the half strong and went to the break up 38-29.
  • Geneseo trailed by as many as 11 points in the second half at 45-34, however the Knights turned it around and went on a 16-1 run to take a four-point lead at 50-46. Hofer highlighted the run for the Knights, dropping 11 of the 16 points.
  • Michael Gentile knocked down a big three for the Knights to go up seven points at 59-52, but Alfred was able to climb back into the game and tie it at 63-63. Unfortunately, Geneseo couldn't come up with the clutch bucket they needed down the strecth and ultimately fell 70-67.
