Men's Basketball Falls At Elmira, 92-85

ELMIRA, N.Y. - The SUNY Geneseo men's basketball team couldn't pull out a road win at Elmira on Saturday afternoon, falling 92-85. The loss drops the Knights to 5-10 overall and 2-4 in Empire 8 action, while Elmira improves to 5-10 and 1-5 in conference play.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Robert Pericolosi carried the load early on for the Knights, scoring eight of the team's first 11 points as they led 11-10 just over eight minutes into the action. Both offenses heated up from that point, with Geneseo leading by as many as six points. Josh Garelle kept the Knights in the lead going to halftime with a layup in the final two seconds to make it 40-37.
  • Baskets from Drew Morrow and Pericolosi early in the second half put Geneseo up five, but the Soaring Eagles quickly had an answer as they went on a 6-0 run to regain the lead.
  • Elmira continued to control the game went ahead by seven at 69-62, but a quick 7-0 response from the Knights tied the game back up. Colin Gentile drained a three to highlight the 7-0 run, while Garelle and Michael Gentile also added two points each.
  • Unfortunately, the Soaring Eagles were able to pull away down the stretch and Geneseo couldn't close the gap, ultimately falling 92-85.
QUICK FACTS:
  • Josh Garelle dropped 23 points to lead the Geneseo offense, while Pericolosi (19), Colin Gentile (18), and Michael Gentile (11), joined him in double-digits.
  • Casey Jackson dished out a game-high 10 assists, while Garelle and Pericolosi led the rebounding efforts with six each.
