Women's Basketball Wins Fifth Straight, Tops Utica 76-36

GENESEO, N.Y. - The SUNY Geneseo women's basketball team continued its hot start to the second semester, winning their fifth-straight game by 20 or more points with a 76-36 win over Utica on Tuesday night. The Knights are now 9-4 on the season and 4-0 in Empire 8 play, while Utica falls to 2-11 and 0-4.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Kiley Snow got things rolling for Geneseo with an early layup and three to go ahead 5-0. The Pioneers were able to flip the momentum and tie the game at 7-7, but the Knights offense caught fire to close out the quarter and ended the first ten minutes with a 22-11 advantage.
  • In the second quarter, Maggie McGrane knocked down a three to extend the lead to 21 points at 37-16 with 4:25 left to play, but Utica closed the quarter on an 7-0 run to close the gap before halftime.
  • Kathleen Birmingham highlighted the third quarter for the Knights by scoring on three consecutive possessions in the final two minutes. Birmingham's seven points, along with a buzzer beater from Snow helped make it a 56-28 lead going to the final 10 minutes.
  • Geneseo continued to dominate the action in the final 10 minutes, out-scoring the Pioneers 20-8 in the quarter to earn the 76-36 victory.
QUICK FACTS:
  • Geneseo dominated the offensive glass in the game, putting up 23 offensive rebounds, which led to 20 second chance points.
  • Snow led the team in scoring with 16 points, while Grace Galgano chipped in 11 and McGrane, 10.
  • Mackenzie Reigle dished out 13 assists in the contest, tying her for fourth all-time in program history for assists in a single game. Reigle becomes the first player since 1998 to join the top-five in assists for a single game.
