Game Recap: Field Hockey | | Brian Piendel

Field Hockey Defeats #24 William Smith 4-2

Geneseo, NY- The Geneseo Field Hockey team knocked off #24 William Smith, 4-2, at home on Wednesday night to remain undefeated through three games.  

HOW IT HAPPENED:  

  • Fifth-year forward Katrina Clare put the Knights on the board at 8:26 in the first quarter. Sophomore forward Ella Greico and first-year forward Ava Harman assisted on the play.  

  • Junior midfielder Sam Lewis added a tally with 1:13 left in the first quarter on a rebound from a penalty corner attempt. Junior Shannon Cunningham with the assist.  

  • Harman battled through a scrum of defenders to extend the Knights' lead to three 2:53 into the second half.   

  • The Herons found the back of the net at 1:23 and 4:14 into the final quarter to cut down the lead.  

  • Junior forward Emily Cortese put the final goal of the game into the net with just over eight minutes left in the game. The Knights were awarded another penalty corner and once again capitalized on it to put the game to rest.  

QUICK FACTS: 

  • First-year Ava Harman has been a spark to the Knight's offense, scoring in both tonight's game and last game against Vassar.    

  • Geneseo's defense started the season on fire, conceding just four goals in the first three games.  

  • The Knights averaged 4.0 goals per game and conceded 1.33 goals per game to their opponents throughout three games.  

WHAT'S NEXT: 

The Knights will make a trip to Saratoga Springs to take on Skidmore College (2-1) on Saturday, September 7th, at 2 pm.
