Women's Soccer Ends In A Tie Against Sage

GENESEO, N.Y. - The SUNY Geneseo women's soccer team battled to a scoreless draw with the Sage Gators on Saturday afternoon at College Stadium. The Knights are now 4-3-2 on the season and 2-0-1 in Empire 8 play.  

HOW IT HAPPENED:  

  • Geneseo came out hot, controlling the ball in the first half by out-shooting Sage 7-3. Abby Foster and Juliette Frischmann both had great shots on goal but could not get it past Sage's goalkeeper, who dove to make the save both times.

  • Nadia Jaworowicz got a steal for Geneseo later in the first half and put a shot on net, but was denied by Sage to keep the score at 0-0 going to halftime.

  • To start the second half, the Gators sent a corner into the box, but Mollie Collins made an incredible save to deep the game scoreless.  

  • Frischmann took advantage of some space later in the half, and shot a great ball to the bottom left, but did not get past Sage. Lindsey Matthews tried to get the rebound, but was stopped by another diving save. 

  • In the 84th minute, Geneseo had a chance to score with a free kick and Abby Dunnigan went for the header off the ball played in, but missed just wide of the net.  

  • The Knights continued to fight hard and attempt to break the tie, but they were unable to score, ending the game 0-0. The team now sits at 4-3-2 on the season. 

QUICK FACTS:  

  • The Knights out-shot the Gators 11-4, with Frischmann and Matthew's having four and three respectively. 

  • Mollie Collins four saves put her at 51 for the season, only four less than her season total last year.  

WHAT'S NEXT:  
The Knights take on Keuka this Wednesday at 7 PM at home in College Stadium.
