Women's Soccer Strong Second Half Leads to 5-0 Win

GENESEO, N.Y.-The SUNY Geneseo Women's Soccer Team were victorious against the Keuka Wolves on Wednesday night at College Stadium, winning 5-0. The Knights improved to 5-3-2 overall and 3-0-1 in Empire 8 Conference play.  

HOW IT HAPPENED: 

  • Geneseo wasted no time finding the back of the net. Graduate student forward Juliette Frischmanns shot went bar down on a breakaway in the 5th minute, assisted by graduate student midfielder Lindsey Clar. This brought the Knights into halftime up 1-0.  

  • Just like the first half, the Knights came out flying in the second. Frischmann linked up with junior forward Abby Dunnigan in the 48th minute to extend the lead to 2-0.  

  • Three minutes later Geneseo struck again. Junior forward Abby Foster spun around the defender and put the ball in the back of the net from outside the box.  

  • Senior midfielder Lindsey Mathews crossed in a ball from a corner kick and found sophomore defender Lauren DeMuras foot in the 66th minute. DeMura redirected the ball into the net to give Geneseo a 4-0 lead.  

  • First-year forward Kirsten Shepherd scored her third collegiate goal in the 78th minute to put the final goal in for the Knights.  

QUICK FACTS:  

  • Senior goalkeeper Mollie Collins started in net and recorded her fifth shutout of the season, recording two total saves.  

  • Geneseo's five goals are the most goals scored in a single game this season, surpassing four scored against Buffalo State on September 1st.  

  • The Knights tailed nine shots on target while holding the Wolves to zero.  

WHAT'S NEXT:  

Geneseo (5-3-2) will travel to take on Utica University (4-6-0) on Saturday, October 5th, at 5 pm in an inner-conference battle.
