GENESEO, N.Y. - The SUNY Geneseo Department of Intercollegiate Athletics and Recreation is excited to announce a new NCAA Division III Women's Flag Football offering for Spring 2025.
Â
"Seeing this sport grow across the country and in our area has been amazing. The number of women looking to play flag at the college level, coupled with Geneseo's outstanding academic profile and excellent facilities (two turf fields at the College Stadium), make flag a natural addition to our nationally recognized Division III athletic program," said Mike Taberski, vice president for student and campus life. "We look forward to welcoming an inaugural team of student-athletes who will become part of the OneKnight family to play flag."
Â
The Knights will pilot the program with current and transfer students this spring and recruit a full roster of players for Fall 2025. The College anticipates a roster of 25-30 student-athletes and will be recruiting a coaching staff prior to the spring semester. The addition of women's flag increases the college's offerings to 22 intercollegiate sports.
Â
"Flag football is exploding at the high school level, especially in Section V (Rochester) and Section VI (Buffalo), making Geneseo an ideal spot for growing the sport into the College game," said Dani Drews, director of athletics. "We are confident this will soon become an NCAA-sponsored sport and want Geneseo to be pioneers on the flag football landscape."
