ELMIRA, N.Y. - The SUNY Geneseo flag football team capped off its first season of Empire 8 competition on Saturday afternoon with a 26-8 victory at Elmira. The Knights conclude their first season of action with a record of 12-4 and 7-1 in conference action, as they now turn their focus to the Empire 8 Tournament as the No. 1 seed.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Following an interception from Harmony Shipman on the first drive of the game, the Knights drove down the field to score a touchdown and took a quick 7-0 lead. On fourth and goal at the one-yard line, Corina Dunn completed a pass to Abigail Uhrich for the touchdown.
- Elmira would bounce back after the hot start from Geneseo, and went on to lead 8-7 at halftime.
- On the first drive of the second half, Dunn completed a 45-yard touchdown pass to Natalia DiPalma on fourth and five to regain the lead. The Knights defense would go on to shut down the Soaring Eagles offense for the remainder of the game, while Dunn threw a second touchdown pass to DiPalma and rushed in another to seal the 26-8 victory.
QUICK FACTS:
- Dunn went 11-15 for 128 yards and three touchdowns through the air, while DiPalma led the rushing and receiving groups with 56 and 97 yards, respectively.
- Fiyorina Daniel led the defensive effort with nine flag pulls, while Shipman and Kenna MacKenzie both added an interception.
