GENESEO, N.Y. - The SUNY Geneseo flag football team saw its seven-game win streak snapped on Tuesday evening, falling to Villa Maria 26-6. The Knights are now 10-4 overall, and will turn their sights to the final two regular season conference games before the postseason.
Following a defensive struggle in the first quarter, which ended in a 0-0 tie, the Vikings were able to find their way on the scoreboard first by completing a 15-yard touchdown pass early in the second quarter. The Knights continued to struggle to move the ball on offense as the second quarter went on, and they ended up facing a 13-0 deficit at halftime. Villa Maria started the second half with the ball and opened with a touchdown drive, followed by a turnover and another touchdown to take a 26-0 advantage. In the fourth quarter, sophomore quarterback
Ella Koopman found
Corina Dunn for a touchdown to put the Knights on the board, but they were unable to mount a comeback and ultimately fell 26-6.
Geneseo will host Brockport on Friday at 6 p.m., with both teams sitting at 5-1 in Empire 8 play and vying for the No. 1 seed in the postseason.
