Men's Soccer Ties St. John Fisher

Geneseo, N.Y.- The SUNY Geneseo men's soccer team played to a scoreless draw against St. John Fisher College (2-3-2) on Saturday afternoon at College Stadium. The Knights hold a record of (2-2-2) on the season and (1-0-1) in Empire 8 Conference play.  

HOW IT HAPPENED: 

  • The Knights played a strong first half, maintaining possession the majority of the time and went on to out-shoot the Cardinals 5-1 in the first 45 minutes, but the two teams entered halftime at 0-0.

  • Senior midfielder Vasion Sinjari attempted an outside-of-the-box shot in 64th minute that sailed over the net, then a few minute later fifth-year defender Jake DePaoli made a goal-line save in the 72nd minute to keep the game scoreless.   

  • First-year forward Ali Shabani missed the net on a shot attempt in the 87th minute in Geneseo's last opportunity to pull out the win.

QUICK FACTS:  

  • Geneseo holds a record of (9-2-5) in 17 matches against the Cardinals.  
  • The Knights' defense held St. John Fisher to zero shots on goal during the game.

The Geneseo Knights (2-2-2) will travel to Rochester to take on #21 University of Rochester (4-1-1) on Tuesday, September 24th, at 7 pm.
