Men's Soccer Falls On The Road Against Alfred State

Alfred, N.Y. - The SUNY Geneseo men's soccer team fell to Alfred State, 2-1, on Wednesday night in a non-conference matchup. The Knights dropped their first of the season and now hold a record of 2-1-2 and 1-0 in conference play.  

HOW IT HAPPENED:  

  • The Knights opted for a short corner kick in the 6th minute that led to a shot by first-year midfielder Ali Shabani, who missed just left of the goal.  

  • Alfred State took an early 1-0 lead in the 9th minute on a long shot from about 40 yards out.  

  • Junior forward Dylan Thody rattled the left post in the 25th minute after collecting his own rebound, but the Pioneers maintained the lead. 

  • The Knights found an equalizer in the 43rd minute from the penalty spot. Senior defender Eric Famularo was fouled in the box, and senior midfielder Stefen Nikolic blasted the ball into the top left corner to tie the game before halftime.  

  • The Pioneers regained the lead in the 61st minute, and Geneseo was held scoreless in the second half despite creating multiple chances.   

QUICK FACTS:  

  • Stefen Nikolic continued his impressive campaign this season with another goal in tonight's game. Nikolic leads the Knights with eight points (3 goals and 2 assists) in five games played.  

  • Geneseo out-shot Alfred State 13-7, nearly doubling their shot count.  

WHAT'S NEXT:  

The Geneseo Knights (2-1-2) will host the St. John Fisher Cardinals (3-2-1) on Saturday, September 21st, at noon in an Empire 8 showdown.
